Fraudulent Listings Lead To Fake Real Estate Agent's Indictment

A Sterling, Virginia woman, Kimberly Hoan Vu, 45, was indicted on more than a 20 charges of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Vu posed as a real estate agent and fraudulently offered houses, townhouses, and rooms for rent. She is accused of taking security deposits and the first month's rent for properties, yet never delivering them to prospective tenants.

Commentary

An imposter pretended to be a real estate agent and swindled people out of security deposits and actual rent. Actual agents have codes of conduct that prohibit misappropriation of client funds.

Real estate agents must use the highest standards of transparency and keep meticulous accounting of all funds entrusted to them or received by them for a client's purpose.

Disclose all terms and regulations pertaining to a transaction. Be honest and truthful as to all advertisements and other representations regarding properties.
